Beacon Street Fire
On March 26th, 2014, Ladder 15 and Engine 33 of the Boston Fire Department responded to a nine-alarm basement fire in a four-story brownstone building on Beacon Street. Fire Lieutenant Edward Walsh and Firefighter Michael Kennedy were two of the first fire fighters to enter the building. 40 MPH winds caused this fire to spread rapidly, trapping Walsh and Kennedy in the basement of the building.
Boston Fire Department Commissioner Joe Finn stated, “In 30 years, I have never seen a fire travel that fast, escalate that quickly, and create such havoc in a short period of time.” Fire Lieutenant Edward Walsh and Fire Fighter Michael Kennedy responded to their last call on March 26th, 2014 on Beacon Street. The Greg Hill Foundation raised over $161,000 to support the Walsh Family and the Kennedy Family.
