Matt Wetherbee
On Tuesday, June 7th, Matt Wetherbee suffered a spinal cord injury while playing basketball with his friends. Matt was rushed to Massachusetts General Hospital for treatment. There it was determined that he severely injured his spinal cord at the C3 and C4 vertebrae location. He is currently paralyzed from the chest down without the use of his arms or legs. Matt turned 29 on June 10th while in the hospital.
On June 13th, 2016, The Greg Hill Foundation hosted an on-air fundraiser. With the support of Greg’s media audience, The Greg Hill Foundation donated $146,395 to Matt Wetherbee.
With this money, Matt was able to purchase an FES electrical stimulation bike that allowed him to work out at home, as well as attend therapy sessions four days a week at Journey Forward. The funds raised and donated by The Greg Hill Foundation providedMatt an opportunity to access the therapy he needed to build his strength and keep his body healthy while adapting to his new normal. The Greg Hill Foundation also inspired Matt to start the MW Fund, which provides financial assistance to individual therapy programs and to further support research initiatives developed for SCI recovery. The Greg Hill Foundation’s support of Matt has now stretched much further, supporting an entire community of individuals with spinal cord injuries.
